Deck permits by town
Each town issues its own. This is what each one asks for.
- Saint John
- The application needs a site plan with the distance from the deck to each property line, and a drawing of the deck. Deck permit package, saintjohn.ca
- Quispamsis
- The Town issues a deck development permit, applied for online. A deck that you step onto from the house counts as attached. Permits, quispamsis.ca
- Rothesay
- The Town’s building inspector issues the permit. The owner signs the application, even when we apply for it. Permit questions, rothesay.ca
Read on each town’s own page in October 2026. The town’s page is the final word.
Deck questions
- Can you replace rotted boards without rebuilding the whole deck?
- Yes. Replacing rotted boards and framing is part of the work we do. The site visit shows how much needs replacing, and the quote says so.
- Who draws the plan for the permit?
- We do, with the site plan the town asks for, and we file the application.
- Do you build steps and railings too?
- Yes, as part of the same job and the same quote.
